What is YMDR?
Yo Music Dedicated records is a freedom of expression group/ movement for Christian community, and also community with those who are not Christians learning how to do life with believers and non-believers in unity using the talents God has given them to make a difference not just in their faith but in their talents by creating content that is locally based, In their city. Using the art of all kinds to speak to anyone who is willing to understand what we do or who we are as believers.
YMDR has been around for four years. It was created in 2013 and launched 2014 the name YO MUSIC from a Christian song from an artist named Shachah who made a song called,’’Deliver us ft.john wells.’’ The song was made in 2009 and gave a very Awesome outlook on life at the time for me That was when I had been introduced to Christians Hip hop but John wells said something that stuck with me forever in that song,’’ is when he screamed in the Mic saying,’’ YO Music Which was what birth YMDR only I called it yo music at the time. I ran through all types of other names and stuff, but YMDR seemed to fit right. Yo music dedicated records or Yo movement dedicated rebels. This group did not really pop off very far I got no exposure the first time I started because it was still brand new. I had been picking days when it would be time for the pools to open to listen to music and rap around the swimming pool. That’s what gave me a little bit of the Idea as well. People use to say I sucked at rapping, and then I learned how to communicate what I was hearing, and they started to say I sounded Good. I started off making music, cartoons, graphics, and some recording, and I had one member who stuck with me which was warren. He was written I was a rapper he did poetry I did rap. He was a friend of mine from a guy named Robert and at the time Warren had become a believer which was why we wanted to be a part of it. I and him put together music he makes a book company called aspire publishing I made YMDR books. He was one of the only members that took it seriously. Which drive me to keep doing it. I got more and more things for it and invested so much money into it that It started to come along with what I had, and now YMDR has almost all of what it needs. It doesn’t have a location yet but I am still pouring into it. I found a member who would like to be a part of it this year in 2018 she will be a part of what she can in the summer.
What are your goals for YMDR?
Build community with believers and nonbelievers
We are inviting them into our world when we are in community with them. They are getting a taste of what believers look like. Their minds and hearts may not know what to expect from a believer I mean they might, but they might not. If they have had bad experiences with believers? This helps them clear up what they think of believers. Making them more comfortable to understand us. By just loving them where they are. That has really help me in the process of who I have come to know and love over the years.
Impact those through our faith or our talents
So This is something that may come up from some people. Is that they may like how you have talents but may not be to infested in your faith. Which in some cases is a common thing? Because people can have such a impact on people they kind of just forget about what they actually represent because of artistry they see within the artist. So yeah they may not always like your faith, but since you are a believer and they get the talent that God is giving you that does still impact them to check out faith sometimes. God works in Matrious ways and if they can like both or one. That’s fine, but don’t compromise your faith for them. Let your faith show and your artistry show it as well. If you choose to be a believer with artistry That’s your choice. No one should try to take it away from you.
Give back to the community and keep some for you
This shows people we thank you for investing your money or time into us and we want to do something for you doing that. It doesn’t have to be money it can be if they need us to this or whatever it’s a way of serving those who served us. Because it shows we not just worried about their money genuinely are glad they are in this with us, and if we can manage to do something for them then we should try to do that. when we can.
Making a better industry on local grounds
From what I understand about the industry or entrainment is that they want to catch your eye to what you are seeing, and once they have that brainwash and hooked on anything in their Industry you won’t seek entertainment from any other new artist. YMDR is making a new thing for artistry that the industry has never seen which is local entertainment that is built not off brainwashing people, but just showing them, and introducing them to our talents and gifts, not in a way of worshiping us as people. Creating is just a fun thing, and we are glad to get the recognition, but you don’t have to worship us for it. we are human beings who are thankful we have the abilities that are given to us by God and just like to use them to glorify him, and have fun.
What are YMDR plans this year?
More investment in things working on more content, getting more people involved with it after I do some street shows and just have like sit-ins at the library, and properly will also make it into a nonprofit business slowly when I feel like I have gotten enough people around it, but yeah I the future of YMDR is a learning process. It usually all happens on what It happens on its own. What all it holds the next years it starts to get exposure. I leave those things up to God. I don’t expect anything. I just go with flow letting his work come in whenever it does.
